The Parish Picnic was held on Sunday, June 27 at the Ashwell Residence following worship at Christ Church. A grand BBQ feast and water games were enjoyed by all. See the photo album for more shots http://picasaweb.google.com/stmarksanglican

Many thanks to the Ashwell's for hosting the party again!

2010 Order of St. Mark

Rupert Kirk, Fr. Greg and Lena Malony
We had a joyful worship service on Sunday, June 13 to celebrate St. Mark's 80th Anniversary! Our Christ Church congregation (second point in the parish) joined us for the day.
During the service, the 2010 Order of St. Mark was bestowed on Lena Malony and Rupert Kirk, two long serving members of the church.
Lena has been a member of St. Mark's and head of the Altar Guild longer than she can remember! Our Rector, Greg Gilson, commented that he thinks she lives at the church sometimes because we can find her there almost anytime doing something; in the kitchen getting food ready, cleaning silver, ironing linens, at choir practice, with the ACW or Sunday School or any of the other various things Lena always does without being asked.
Rupert is a long time Lay Reader, member of parish vestry and alternate Lay Delegate to Synod. He is also one of the people that is regularly called on to 'take a look at..." and willingly grabs his hammer at the first opportunity as needed.
Members of the Community Ecumenical Choir also joined our regular choir for the service and the choir provided a wonderful leadership in music. In addition to two anthems they also provided a special antiphone for the psalm and participated with regular worship music.

As our brothers and sisters in Christ gather to discern the future of the Anglican Church in Canada, let us pray:

A Prayer for the Church:
Holy God, navigator of our souls, hear us as we uphold The General Synod of our Church. Be with us in our yearning to chart a new course together, inspired by the presence of your Spirit. Give courage to our Bishops, our Diocesan Synods, and all our leaders as we move forward with your blessing. For all we do, we do to your glory, in Jesus’ name.
AMEN

A Prayer for General Synod:
Sovereign God, we gather in your name in Halifax for the 39th General Synod of our Church. We ask your continued blessing on Fred, our Primate, on the Diocese of Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island, on Bishops Sue and Ron, and on all who work together to welcome the Synod to their home. Give us the gift of your Spirit, to inspire and lead us, to help us be buoyed up in your gentle breezes, so that, together. We may offer you worship and praise as we plan together for a new future. All of this we ask in the name of Jesus, our chief Shepherd.
AMEN

Also, keep our General Synod delegates in our prayers as they take the Diocese of Caledonia to the east coast: Bishop William Anderson, Rev. Ernest Buchanan, (our) Rev. Dr. Gregory Gilson, Lay Delegates Ken Ponsford, Desiree Read and Youth Delegate Lisa Smart.

Thanks be to God!
