Operation Christmas Child

UPDATE:
Thank you to everyone who donated towards the goodies or shipping of the boxes and for all the packing time - we packed 48 boxes this year!!
What great work and what great gifts 48 children will receive! Thank you!
--
The youth are once again gathering donations for the Operation Christmas Child shoeboxes to be shipped to children who would otherwise not have a Christmas.

Our Sunday School Superintendent, Valerie, says that they now have lots of boxes (which were in short supply) and generous donations for the shipping. Now they just need all the goodies to go into the boxes!!

The boxes are made for a girl or a boy aged 2-4, 5-9 or 10-14,
so any items good for these age groups can be gathered such as

- school supplies (pencils, crayons, note pads, picture books)

- toys and gift items (small musical instruments, stuffed animals, toy jewelry, hair clips or ribbons, t-shirts, socks)

- and personal hygiene products (cake soap, wash cloths, toothbrush, comb)

- loose, individually wrapped hard candy in a sealable bag

You may include a note in the box to the child that receives it, add a picture of yourself if you wish.

Please do not include any used items, toothpaste, crumbly candy, food or gum, anything that might freeze, break or leak (lip balm, mirrors, creams or lotion) and nothing that might scare a child (war toys, knives) or playing cards.

Thank you from the Sunday School...and the recipients of the shoeboxes!!

Upcoming events...

Sans les Enfants (our adults social group) will enjoy Octoberfest, a fundraiser for KPAC, on Friday, October 22. If you wish to join the gathering please let Fr. Greg know so we are sure to have enough tickets!

The Harvest Dinner will be served on Sunday, October 24 from 5:30 - 7:00pm. You can never have enough turkey with all the fixings!

The next Poor Boy Luncheon will be held on Friday, October 29 from 11:30 - 1:00pm. What a great way to end the work week...join your friends for lunch!

Check out the Events listing in the right side menu for other things happening at the Parish of the South Peace.

Lots on the go....

So many things have been happening in the last month or so and there are many events being planned - it's been hard to keep up!!

I've posted a number of pictures in our album at http://picasaweb.google.com/stmarksanglican
for you to take a look at from several functions that happened in September...but I'll add a couple here too!

First, on September 12 we had to say good-bye to one of our Lay Readers, Brenda, as she moved to Oliver with her husband Dwayne. We baptized her grandson Nathan the same day as the farewell. We wish Brenda and Dwayne all the best in their new home!

Then, on September 19, we had the Stew and Bannock Luncheon; a fundraiser for Council of the North. We raised $271 from the luncheon!! We also celebrated Jen's 89th Birthday the same day!!

Back to Church Sunday on September 26 saw several new and returning faces join us at both St. Mark's and Christ Church - Welcome!! (No pictures!!) A grand lunch and fellowship followed worship!
Sunday School was also back in full swing with the new curriculum and some new faces.

The Fun(D)raising Committee was hard at work during September planning our regular Poor Boy Lunches (next on on October 29 at 11:30am), a spring dinner and a spring concert among other things!

And we also acquired a 'new' organ which now graces the sanctuary. The necessary placement of the organ has caused a bit of shuffling of our altar and decisions to be made around what's best for the layout and celebration of communion. We are trying a few variations and will see how people feel before the final decision is made.

Keep an eye out...lots of things still to come between now and Christmas and beyond - never a dull moment at Parish of the South Peace!

Peace
v
